A more powerful hitting combination than the great Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig would be difficult to find. Between the two of these New York Yankees legends, they blasted a total of 1,207 home runs collectively during their Hall of Fame careers. This lot captures both heavy hitters on one baseball. Despite the darkly toned surface of this aged, red stitched ball, Ruth's signature projects boldly from the sweet spot region in still quite bold black ink (7/10 in our book). On the west panel, Gehrig's autograph appears fully legible (4-5/10), but to a lesser degree than Ruth's. The only stamping on the baseball appears to be "SOFT PARK BALL." While the Gehrig signature is certainly a valuable enhancement, the baseball would display very nicely as a Ruth single as well.
