As soon as Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani debuted with the L.A. Angels in 2018, he was an instant showstopper, possessing a transformative blend of two-way power, arm strength, and speed never-before-seen in our National Pastime. His dominant stuff on the mound can only be matched by the majestic flights of his homers. Presented here is a milestone home run ball from June 23, 2023 – a 423-foot laser to right-center off Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland that cleared the bullpen at Coors Field. It was Ohtani’s 25th of the season, one in which the left-handed slugger and right-handed ace earned his second MVP award after finishing with an AL-leading 44 homers while also going 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA and 167 K’s in 132 innings.

The 5th-inning solo shot was #152 of Shohei’s MLB career. Combined with his 48 dingers from Nippon Professional Baseball, it marked his 200th professional home run split between the two leagues. The OML (Manfred) ball exhibits obvious game use, the most telling mark being the smeared label on the front from the smashed point of contact off the barrel. Shohei went 3-for-5 in the game as the Halos fell to the Rockies, 7-4. An MLB Authentication hologram (YP013935, TPM) is affixed describing the ball exactly as “the” home run ball. Arguably the most talented player since Babe Ruth, Ohtani has already cemented himself as the best of his generation. More greatness is sure to come as he begins his historic 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers.
