INTERNET AUCTION NETS $1.75 MILLION

Lead an Impressive Lineup of Important Memorabilia and Cards



Laguna Niguel, Ca. – Another strong line up of fine sports memorabilia and cards offered by industry leader SCP Auctions was anxiously received by hundreds of collectors who participated in their January 28th Internet Auction. The 639 lots in the sale generated over $1.75 million. According to David Kohler, President and CEO of SCP Auctions, the sale attracted wide range of collectors. Kohler remarked, “Our collector’s can’t be stopped.  Their passion for high quality sports cards and memorabilia will not be denied, even in tougher economic times like these.  I think it’s a wonderful testament to the dedication and passion of collectors who continue to pursue their collecting dreams.  We’re very pleased with the results of the auction and the continued influx of new bidders in our sales.”

Highlighting the auction were several incredible, fresh new pieces of pre war memorabilia including Harry Hooper’s 1916-18 Boston Red Sox Road Jersey bringing $58,461. Another fresh piece making its way to the auction block was an incredible 1927 New York Yankees Team Signed Photo Signed by 47 Yankees and Graded PSA MINT 9 yielding $94,153.  Additional memorabilia highlights included a 1912 T212 Hassan Triple Folder "Ty Cobb Steals Third" Signed - PSA/DNA MINT 9 sold for $17,301, 1936 - 1939 Mel Ott Game Used Bat PSA/DNA GU 7 brought $25,064, a 50 Greatest NBA Autographed Display sold for $29,000, a 1958-62 Hartland Statues Complete Set With 14 Boxes and 15 Tags brought $15,562 and a 1996 New York Yankees Full Size World Series Trophy realized $15,562.

Aside from the pricey memorabilia, some other big numbers were seen in the card categories including 19th Century rarities like; 1887 N370 Lone Jack St. Louis Browns Bob Caruthers GAI 1.5 FAIR realized $2,761, a 1888 E223 G & B Chewing Gum Mickey Welch SGC 10 POOR brought $4,446 and 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Jimmy Ryan (Port) GAI 1.5 FAIR reached $4,446.

Tobacco cards were well represented throughout the sale with highlights including; 1909-11 T206 Bill O'Hara (St. Louis) EX-MT PSA 6 (MC) bringing $6,063, while 1909-11 T206 Eddie Plank PSA Authentic, 1909-11 T206 Ray Demitt (St. Louis) PSA NM 7 and 1909-11 T206 Sherry Magie Error PSA GOOD+ 2.5 brought $18,831, $29,563 and $15,036 respectively.  Additional pre-war card highlights included; c. 1908-09 Joe Jackson Postcard sold for $17,569, 1914 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb PSA NM-MT 8 brought $59,100, 1916 M101-5 Sporting News #176 Jim Thorpe (Blank Back) PSA NM 7 reached $23,385 and a 1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie PSA EX 5 brought $28,297.

Post war cards were highly contested in the sale including 1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson PSA 6 EX-MT (1 of 1) reaching $7,605, a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 realized $15,036, a 1958 Topps #485 Ted Williams All-Star PSA GEM MINT 10 (1 of 1) brought $6,225 a 1967 Topps Disc Proof Mickey Mantle 1b PSA Authentic sold for $10,740, a 1952 Topps Baseball Complete Set of 407 Plus All 80 Black Back Variations - 487 Cards Total brought $30,328 while a 1957 Topps Baseball High Grade Complete Set of 407 Plus Extras realized $25,064.
