From 1973-82, Steve Garvey was one of the most productive players in all of baseball, batting over .300 with close to 200 hits, 20 home runs and 100 RBI each season. Manning first base for the L.A. Dodgers, he made the All-Star team eight straight years  and won four consecutive Gold Gloves during that stretch. The 1973 NL MVP finished runner-up in '78 as well. In 1980, "Mr. Clean" had 200 hits, blasted 26 homers and knocked in 106 as the Dodgers finished one game behind the Astros in the NL West division. The following season he would lead L.A. to its first World Series title in 15 years.

Presented here is Garvey's 1980 Dodgers game-worn road jersey, which he has neatly signed and inscribed on the front with his date of birth (”12-22-48”) in bold black marker. The gray knit button-up jersey has the classic ”Dodgers" logo in blue-on-white tackle twill across the chest, with his No. ”6” front and back in red. ”Garvey” is sewn directly on the jersey across the upper back. The ever important 1980 All-Star Game patch is sewn on the right sleeve to denote the location of that year's Midsummer Classic in the City of Angels; fittingly the fans voted Garvey as a starter in his hometown. Appropriate ”W.A. Goodman & Sons Size 44” tagging is stitched into the collar. The all-original shirt displays solid game wear with no condition issues to speak of. Thus, MEARS has given it a perfect grade. Includes LOA from MEARS (303786) graded a perfect A10. LOA from Beckett (A52599) for autograph and inscription.
