This ring is an extraordinary symbol of Paul Hornung’s role with the NFL Champion Packers in 1966, the
middle year of the team’s extraordinary three year run that culminated with victories in the first two
Super Bowls in history.
A pinched nerve in his neck restricted Hornung to only nine games in his final NFL season and kept him
out of that historic Jan. 15, 1967 clash between the Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs, champions of the
upstart American Football League that had agreed to merge with the older, established National Football
League in a series of negotiations the previous spring and summer. Green Bay prevailed by a 35-10 margin
that was – in the first half at least – closer than the final score might make it appear. The historic game was
held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and was the only Super Bowl in history that was not sold out,
despite an impressive attendance of 62,000 at the mammoth facility. Few could imagine then how the game
would evolve into the most anticipated, watched and celebrated event in sports.
This ring was produced by Jostens in recent years at the approval of the Green Bay Packers for Hornung
to replace the original he no longer possessed. Keeping to the exceptionally detailed original design, the
superb quality gold ring features a diamond atop a globe motif setting encircled by the words “WORLD
CHAMPIONS 1966 GREEN BAY PACKERS”. The “JOSTENS 10K” stamp appears inside the band. Ring size is Size 12.
