Unnaturally tall and gangly as a kid, Clyde Lovellette’s mother had her son skip rope to develop the proper agility to go with his 6-9 frame. By the time he entered Terre Haute’s Garfield High in 1945, Lovellette had developed into a talented basketball player. As a junior he led his team to an undefeated season, falling short only in the championship game against Shelbyville. His senior year saw him coming in runner-up for the state’s “Mr. Basketball” title as he took the leading scorer honors in the annual High School All-Stars game against Kentucky. Worn during his distinguished high school career, Clyde Lovellette’s purple road jersey has “GARFIELD” across the front above his number “16” in white tackle twill. The neck and arm openings are ringed in white ribbing and his number “16” is repeated on the back in white tackle twill. A McMillan label is sewn inside the collar with a size “40” hang tag affixed. The jersey shows good game use with toning from age and light fading from repeated laundering. Loose threads are present on the tackle twill graphics. The matching purple shorts have duel white striping on the thighs and leg openings. The purple integral belt is present as is the McMillan label in the waistband. Accompanied by an LOA from the family of Clyde Lovellette.
