Very attractive NM PSA 7 portrait pose of 19th Century Hall of Fame New York Giant shortstop John Montgomery Ward from the historic N172 Old Judge tobacco issue. The multi-talented Ward was also a top pitcher at the beginning of his career, winning 87 games for Providence during the 1879-80 seasons and tossing the 2nd Pefect Game in Baseball History. Hie lifetime 2.10 ERA is still good enough for 5th place all-time. He was a major force behind the short lived Players League in 1890 and became a prominent lawyer upon his retirement. Strong image with outstanding facial detail. Very well centered with super clean front and back. Solid "7" corners. Only 3 Ward's of any pose have been rated higher with this being the only NM PSA 7 portrait.
