Between the years of 1941 and 1957, Willie Mosconi won the BCA World Championship of pool an amazing fifteen times. Mosconi regularly employed numerous trick shots, set numerous records and helped to popularize the game of billiards. Mosconi also served as the technical consultant for manufacturers of high-end pool cues. This two-piece custom pool cue, was a gift from Willie to Walter Alston.
When it came to billiards Walter Alston was considered a “sharp”. In fact, Alston once said that while pursuing a degree in industrial arts and physical education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in the mid-1930’s that finances were a challenge and that he paid his way through school by playing pool. In his adult life, Alston’s pool table in the center of his trophy room was often the center of the family’s leisure activity.
Residing in its original case, the handle section of the two-piece cue is engraved, “To Walter Alston From Willie Mosconi.” The top end of the second section features Alston’s engraved initials, “W.A.” Additional tips and other accessories are also included in the case. Also included are three original photographs from Alston personal photo collection of Alston playing billiards at huis home, including one showing him using what appears to be this very cue.
LOA from the Alston family.
