If nothing else disproves the myth that Honus Wagner was an anti-tobacco crusader, then at least there's the proof of Wagner's very own licensed brand of cigars. This "Hans Wagner Cigar" is one of the most highly prized specimens in the entire field of tobacco labels. Because the label has never actually been seen on a box before, this is likely a printer's proof originating from a sample album. This cigar label is a rare square-shaped variation (a smaller oval is typical) with dimensions of 4-3/8" x 4-5/8". A "HANS WAGNER" heading is handsomely embossed over a spectacular bust-length illustrated portrait and lively diamond backdrop. The centered fine-print copyright line reads, "TITLE & DESIGN REGISTERED BY FREEMAN CIGAR CO." Apparent condition is strikingly fresh EX/MT (one subtle sealed edge tear at lower left) within a distinguished 9-1/2" x 9-5/8" framed display.
