Honus Wagner has become a collecting icon through a combination of true greatness and mythical
circumstance. Even to those unfamiliar with the history of our National Pastime, his name has come
to bear a connotation of importance. From his own line of sporting goods, this blue and red stitched
Wagner-Traynor brand “Official League ‘Guaranteed 36 Innings’” ball bears the Flying Dutchman’s bold
fountain pen signature “J. Honus Wagner” nestled atop a side panel with his proud notation “Pirates”
(8/10). The ball is moderately toned with some areas of light surface scuffing, with no distracting faults
on the whole. The ball’s overall aesthetics are simply outstanding. Anyone serious about building the
ultimate collection of singles from the inaugural Hall of Fame inductees has found their cornerstone. In
spite of his graciousness and relatively long life, very few truly high-quality Honus Wagner single signed
baseballs exist today. We unabashedly proclaim this to be one of the finest examples known.
