Starting in mid-May of 1968, at the age of 31, Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Don Drysdale set a major league record that many thought would never be broken. Pitching six consecutive shutouts stretching from May 14th versus the Cubs until June 4th against the Pirates, Drysdale recorded 58-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless pitching. Drysdale’s streak finally ended in the fifth inning of the team’s 5-3 win against the Phillies on June 8 at Dodger Stadium. Despite the streak coming to an end, Drysdale still earned his seventh straight win. He struck out 46 batters during the awe-inspiring stretch of time.

This lot features the “Adirondack Big Stick Award” that Drysdale received from the company following his remarkable stretch. The uniquely designed trophy boasts three Adirondack Big Stick mini bats crisscrossing at the handles; each bat measures 18” long. The trophy base, which is in the shape of home plate, includes a special gold plaque that reads: “ADIRONDACK BIG STICK AWARD to DON DRYSDALE Most Consecutive Scoreless Innings – 58 – 1968.” An ironic and clever award given to the man solely responsible for shutting down the opposition’s bats!

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
