This gold medal was awarded to Chris Mullin in the summer of 1992 as a member of the undefeated (6-0) USA Basketball championship squad in the pre-Olympics Tournament of the Americas held in Portland, Ore., in the weeks prior to the Barcelona Games. The tournament gave the world its first glimpse of what kind of mischief the vaunted "Dream Team" might be up to, starting with a 136-57 thrashing of Cuba in the first round to the championship final 127-80 win over Venezuela. The 2 1/2-inch in diameter medal has the tourney logo on one side encircled by engraved text that reads "Basketball Tournament of the Americas, Portland, Oregon 1992': there are no markings on the reverse. The medal and 30-inch red, white and blue ribbon both appear to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Chris Mullin.
