Awesome August 7, 1942 World Wide Photos original Wire photo featuring Hall of Fame hurler Satchel Paige warming up before a Negro League game at Yankee Stadium. Caption on back reads: "Great Colored Hurler Getting $2,000 for a single ball game is pitching for plenty of hay (and pay). That is the sum LeRoy (Satchel) Paige gets for participating in the Kansas City Monarchs - New York Cuban Stars game played in Yankee Stadium. Lanky Leroy's team have won five straight Negro American League Baseball Championships. Commissioner Landis declaration that the rules of the Major Leagues contained no provisions barring Negro players, Paige may be considered one of the most likely Big League prospects if colored players are admitted to the Major loops. This photo shows Satchel during pitching practice at the Stadium." Crystal clear photo itself has some creasing and pin holes at top center and lower right corner. An important wire photo that should frame up nicely.
