At the time, it likely came as no surprise to Pacific Coast League fans that the Yankees’ success of four consecutive world’s championships, beginning in 1936, precisely coincided with the arrival of Joe DiMaggio to the New York lineup. DiMaggio was already a PCL legend in San Francisco in just three seasons with the Seals, having hit in 61 consecutive games in 1933, and finishing the 1935 campaign with 34 home runs, 154 RBI and a .398 average. Following the storied transaction bringing him to the Yankees in 1936, the phenomenal young outfielder wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the best players in Major League Baseball. His rookie season totals included a .323 average, 29 home runs and 125 RBI. The numbers in each of those categories would only increase over his next four seasons, culminating in two consecutive batting championships in 1939 (.381) and 1940 (.352). Presented is a spectacular 36”, 36.25oz. H&B 125 game bat that DiMaggio used during those early years, more precisely the back-to-back batting titles of 1939-40. It exhibits signs of outstanding use including numerous ball marks, cleat marks, and grain swelling from contact. The handle remains uncracked and the manufacturer’s marking are deep and pronounced. The usage characteristics, general aesthetics and era of employment put this in upper tier of DiMaggio gamers we’ve handled.
