Beautiful 2 1/2" by 7 1/4" silk campaign ribbon featuring the two candidates on the 1860 Democratic Presidential ticket - Stephen A. Douglas and Herschel V. Johnson. Douglas, although 2nd to Abraham Lincoln in the popular vote, came in 4th place in the Electoral College behind fellow candidates John Breckinridge and John Bell. Both appear in ovals with very detailed portrait images, candidate for President Stephen A. Douglas at the top and Vice-Presidential candidate Herschel V. Johnson on the bottom. Ribbon appears to be clean, in very nice shape with just a small 1/8" sliver at the top edge on back where the ribbon was attached at one time to a album page. Very nice historical political piece from one of the most important elections in American History.
