The late Zelmo Beaty was a 6’ 9” power forward and center who played pro basketball from 1962-75 with the St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks, Utah Stars (ABA), and then the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1975-76, he served as head coach of the Virginia Squires during their final season in the ABA. Beaty, who died in 2013, won one ABA Championship with the Utah Stars in 1971 and was voted the ABA Playoffs MVP that same year. He played in a pair of NBA All-Star games (1966 and ‘68) and was a three-time ABA All-Star. In 1997, he was selected as part of the ABA’s Greatest All-Time Team. He was inducted posthumously into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

This lot boasts a pair of Beaty’s game worn red satin trunks that he donned during his first NBA All-Star game in 1966 while he was a member of the St. Louis Hawks. The trunks include a “Wilson” manufacturer's tag within the waistband, along with an adjacent tag that simply displays "36." The shorts feature white vertical stripes on either side that include three red tackle twill stars. The elastic waist features a white horizontal stripe. Beaty wore No. 31 and can be seen in the video below.

Includes LOA from the Beaty Family (note: shorts misidentified as an ABA All-Star pair).
