The late Zelmo Beaty was an All-Star performer in both the ABA as well as the NBA. He played for the St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks and the L.A. Lakers of the NBA, and also for the Utah Stars of the ABA where he won a league championship in 1971. He went on to coach for the Virginia Squires during their final ABA season of 1975-76. A 6’ 9” power forward and center, he was inducted (posthumously) into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
This lot features Beaty's 1984 Schick NBA Old-Timers Game East blue game used #31 uniform, his 1985 Schick NBA Legends West white game used #31 uniform, and his 1986 Schick NBA Legends West white game used #31 Uniform. In addition, this lot includes a Beaty’s game worn warm-up jacket from the 1985 NBA Legends Game. The 1984 uniform includes his size 44 (2" LB) Sand Knit jersey and is accompanied by a size 36 (2" HR) pair of shorts which feature a large NBA logo and the word "EAST." All letters and numbers are silk screened on to the uniform. The 1985 uniform includes his size 44 Sand Knit jersey accompanied by a size 36 pair of shorts which feature a large NBA logo and the word "WEST.” All letters and numbers are silk screened right on to the uniform. The 1986 uniform also includes his [size] “46” Sand Knit jersey and comes accompanied by a size 36 pair of shorts that features a large NBA logo and the word "WEST." The 1985 Sand Knit warm-up jacket, meanwhile, reveals [size] “46” tags on the inside and features the NBA logo and the words "1985 NBA Legends" on the front. The jacket shows use including light staining on the lower front portion. The NBA Legends Games were a popular part of the league’s annual All-Star Weekend festivities from 1980 until 1993.
