The late Zelmo Beaty played professional basketball from 1962 to 1975 with the St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks, Utah Stars (ABA), and the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1975-76, he served as head coach of the Virginia Squires during their last season in the ABA. He won an ABA Championship with the Utah Stars in 1971 and was named the ABA Playoffs MVP that same year. He played in two NBA All-Star games (1966 and ‘68) and was a three-time ABA All-Star. In 1997, he was selected as part of the ABA’s All-Time Team. He is also a newly inducted (posthumously) member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame (Class of 2016).

Offered here are his 1961 and ’62 United Press International (UPI) Small College All-America Basketball First Team awards Beaty earned while playing for Prairie View A&M.
