Featuring 23 round diamonds in the Tiffany designed "NY" logo (total .50 karats), this 10 karat gold ring was given to Eddie Layton in recognition of the New York Yankees 23rd world championship, their first in 18 years. Around the ring face reads "WORLD CHAMPIONS". One side of the band shows the Yankee logo across and below a Yankee Stadium facade type design. The other side is engraved "Layton" above an image of the World Series trophy and words "Courage," "Heart," and "Champions." Accompanied by original engraved wooden presentation box. The 1996 season marked both the first year of the Joe Torre era and the latest Yankee dynasty. While Torre had enjoyed little success in his first two managerial stints with the Mets and Braves, he became the toast of New York, thanks to the Yankees' 4-2 World Series win over the defending champion Atlanta Braves, despite losing the first two games at home. Helped by the strong starting pitching of Cone, Pettitte and Key, four straight saves from closer John Wetteland and unexpected homer heroics from Jim Leyritz in Game 4, the Yankees were at the start of something big. Measurements: Size 9. Condition: Overall excellent condition, minor wear from use.
