The Baltimore Orioles, featuring Hall of Famers Wee Willie Keeler, Hugh Jennings, Joe Kelley, and Wilbert Robinson, finished in first place in 1894, winning the National League championship and the right to face the New York Giants in the 1894 Temple Cup series. In commemoration of their 1894 NL championship, this 64-page “Pennant Souvenir” booklet was produced by D. Dorsey Guy. The booklet features exuberant text and imagery throughout including full-page caricatures of Orioles players and manager Ned Hanlon. The last page shows a drawing of the coveted Temple Cup in anticipation of a post-season league championship that was not to be. The Orioles ultimately lost the series 4 games to 0 to the New York Giants, who were led by John Ward, Amos Rusie, George Davis, and Roger Connor. The interior pages of the booklet are firmly in tact and show modest wear at the corners and right edge. The covers have suffered significant chipping at the edges and previously detached at the spine. Tape has bee used to re-attach covers and a large tape repair appears on the back cover. The cover graphics are largely unaffected. FR-GD condition overall. This extremely rare booklet originates from the personal collection of Willie Keeler and includes a letter of provenance from the Keeler family.
