Waite Hoyt first signed a professional contract with the New York Giants as a 15-year old at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn. But Hoyt played just one game for the Giants before embarking on a 21-year career with seven teams. Hoyt made his name with the Yankees, helping them to win three World Series titles in the 1920s. In the 1921 World Series against the Giants, Hoyt didn't allow an earned run in 27 innings, but still only went 2-1. Hoyt continued to be a key contributor for the Yankees throughout the decade, peaking with the Yankees' World Series championship teams in 1923, 1927 and 1928. His 22-7 mark was the best winning percentage in baseball in 1927, and he earned MVP votes in 1928 after going 23-7. Hoyt was the ace of the 1927 Yankees, often considered the best team in baseball history.
The offered lot includes a wonderful trio of letters in which Hoyt recalls his greatest thrills, accomplishments and memories from his illustrious career in baseball. One of the letters is a short, handwritten missive sharing his thoughts on Aaron vs. Ruth career home run records (“no comparison”).  The second is a two-page TLS to Rick Cerrone of Baseball Quarterly in which Hoyt compares the quality of the 1927 Yankees to the best modern teams in great an passionate detail. The third is a long two-page TLS in which Hoyt details his 4 greatest thrills as a player. The content is simply awesome. Both TLS have post-scripts and each letter can be read in their entirety online. Accompanying the letters in a great 8” by 10” Waite Hoyt signed photo. All items have been pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
