Babe Ruth was a frequent and willing signor for his adoring fans particularly children. In 1946 young Joe Thornton met with the Bambino who was visiting Miami Beach. When the youngster came to the Babe after waiting in line he asked his hero to sign the glove that his grandmother had recently given to him. Babe was reluctant to do so because he feared that oil would cause his ink to run the boy told him that the glove had never been oiled and with a photographer from the Miami Herald present to snap a shot that would appear in the next day's paper the Babe smiled and then signed the glove. This is the only authentic signed Babe Ruth glove that we know of and it comes with the original photo of our consignor and the Babe at the signing. The photo which clearly shows this exact glove being signed is stamped "The Miami Herald" on the back and a letter from Mr. Thornton himself accompanies this lot. Signed on the back of the pinky finger "Babe Ruth" (3-4/10) with no personalization the Spalding Al Rosen signature model glove is fairly well weathered to GD condition. Babe's signature is still faintly legible (3-4/10). Additional LOA from PSA/DNA.
