ADDENDUM: Dates of each cap have been updated based on photo research.

Long before the Los Angeles Angels became a Major League franchise in 1961, they were the darlings of the Pacific Coast League. One of the PCL’s charter members, the “Looloos” or “Seraphs” – as they were often called – won 12 pennants from 1903 to 1957. From the 1930s to the mid-50s, the PCL (AA and AAA) was widely regarded as the “third” major league (after the AL and NL), providing a high level of play garnished by the blaze of Tinseltown celebrities in the stands whenever the Angels or Hollywood Stars hosted their games at Wrigley Field in South L.A. Presented here is pair of vintage Los Angeles Angels game worn caps with unknown attribution.

The first cap, with a white interlocking "LA" logo on top of a colorful blue and red felt circle, dates to the 1947 season when the Seraphs went 106-81 to win the PCL pennant. The navy blue hat has lost any remnants of internal tagging due to excessive wear and aging. The sweatband has worn off and the brim is now soft and beginning to separate at the seams. The iconic team logo patch remains exceptionally well-preserved.

The second cap with a white, separated "LA" logo dates to the 1954 season when the Seraphs went 73-92 to finish just two games out of the PCL cellar. The navy blue hat is also missing its internal tagging due to heavy wear and aging. The brown sweatband is still present on the inside and the brim has maintained its firmness, although it shows much more wear-and-tear. Significant external staining and a sightly torn felt 'L' on the front indicate this cap was a favorite of one or more minor leaguers during its heyday. It has not aged as well as the older hat.
