The Sorority Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually usually during the first week of September at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey. Open to two-year-old fillies, it is contested on dirt over a distance of six furlongs. In 1987, the race was held on August 8, and “Blue Jean Baby,” ridden by jockey Chris McCarron. This lot includes three different trophies won by the Eugene V. Klein-owned Blue Jean Baby in ‘87, including two from the Sorority Stakes race.

The two trophies from the Sorority Stakes contest include an 11-inch, two-handled metal silver plated vase that’s perched on top of a cherry wood base that measures 6.25” wide by 6.25” deep by 3.25” high. The front of the vase is engraved: “SORORITY WON BY Blue Jean Baby Monmouth Park.” The second Sorority Stakes trophy is made of hallmarked sterling silver (256 grams) and stands seven inches tall. A two-handed chalice, it features the following text engraved across its front: “SORORITY STAKES Monmouth Park Won By Blue Jean Baby August 8, 1987.”

The third and final trophy from this lot is another two-handled, sterling silver hallmarked beauty (562g) that measures 10” wide by 7.5” tall. It represents yet another victory by Blue Jean Baby, this time at the Colleen Stakes, also held at Monmouth Park, on July 28, 1987. It is engraved across the front to read: “COLLEEN STAKES Monmouth Park Won by Blue Jean Baby July 28, 1987.”

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
