The late Tony Gwynn was one of Major League Baseball’s best pure hitters. He collected 3,141 hits during his illustrious career to go along with eight National League batting titles. And it was in 1994 when Gwynn appeared poised to finally break the mystical .400 plateau. When the season ended abruptly in early August due to the players’ strike, Gwynn was batting an MLB best .394. It was during this season that Gwynn was named the San Diego Padres United State Postal Service (USPS) Player of the Month for May. This lot includes the prestigious USPS plaque awarded to Gwynn. The black marble award measures 12” wide by 10” high and weighs 5.5 pounds.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
