The late, great Tony Gwynn registered 3,141 hits during his incredible career with the San Diego Padres. One of those hits (No. 1,030) on his way to becoming a member of the elite 3,000 Hit Club came on June 17, 1988, against L.A. Dodgers right-hander Don Sutton during the second game of a doubleheader at Dodger Stadium. This lot includes an autographed and commemorative National League baseball that was signed by Gwynn on the sweet spot and also signed and inscribed by Sutton on one of the side panels: “Glad I Could Help! – Don Sutton.” The ball includes a special gold-embossed stamp that reads: “3000 Hit No. 1030 6-17-88 vs. LA - Sutton.” Both signatures are in great shape and rate 8-9/10 in our book.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
