San Diego’s Petco Park, the home of the Padres, officially opened for business on April 8, 2004, when the home team hosted the visiting San Francisco Giants. The newly christened ballpark was filled to capacity with 41,400 fans in attendance to see the Padres score a 4-3 victory in extra innings as they scored twice in the bottom half of the 10th frame. This is a team-signed, game-used base from that Opening Day victory that was awarded to Tony Gwynn as a token of the team’s appreciation for all of his years of outstanding service. The beautifully framed base includes Major League Baseball’s “Opening Day 2004” logo centered on the front with more than 25 signatures in black marker from the Padres’ roster that day. Notable signatures include Padres Manager Bruce Bochy, Opening Day pitcher David Wells, Trevor Hoffman, Sean Burroughs, Mark Loretta, Khalil Greene, Brian Lawrence and Jay Payton. The overall item measures 25” wide by 25” high.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
