The late, great Tony Gwynn was one of baseball’s best hitters ever. With eight National League batting titles to his credit and a career .338 average, Gwynn was an easy first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee into Cooperstown in 2007. From 1993 to 1997, Gwynn batted .368. In 20 different MLB seasons, he never struck out more than 40 times in any one campaign. He was also a perennial All-Star Game selection and started in 15 Mid-Summer Classic during this illustrious career. This lot features a game-used bat “Mr. Padre” swung in 1998 to collect his career 2,915th hit.

The 33-inch Louisville Slugger (model number B267) weighs 30.5 ounces and shows outstanding game use with bat rack, ball contact and cleat marks evident throughout the barrel. In addition, some aged tape is unraveling on the knob of the bat where it is written “B267c 33-30.5 19” in black marker to indicate the model number, length, weight, and finally Gwynn’s uniform number. There is an approximate eight-inch stretch of dried pine tar still residing on the handle. The bat’s serial number as well as Gwynn’s uniform number “19” also appear on the tip of the hollowed-out barrel. Gwynn signed the bat in fine-point black marker on the barrel and added “#2915” just bellowed the wood-burned “SAN DIEGO PADRES” callout. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
