At age 13, the late Tony Gwynn was simply trying to play baseball, along with his brother Charles (two years Tony’s senior), in the Long Beach (CA) Kid Baseball Association. This lot features a “Team Certificate of Entry” that was submitted to the Long Beach Kid Baseball Association with the hopes of fielding a team. It shows 21 players' names, addresses and phone numbers – including the Gwynn brothers – and two coaches. This application for membership in the association’s “Rotary” league was submitted on May 20, 1973. The name of the team’s sponsor was “U.S. Royal Mags.” Matted and framed, the overall presentation of the Team Certificate of Entry now measures 16” wide by 19.5” high.

Includes Letter of Authenticity for the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
