The late Tony Gwynn recorded a club-best 3,141 hits during his 20-year career as a member of the San Diego Padres. And in just his second season with the team, in 1983, he set a new club record by hitting safely in 25 straight games. He broke the team’s old record of 21 straight games by hitting safely in his 22nd consecutive game on September 14, 1983. He turned the trick by going 3-for-4 against San Francisco Giants starter Mike Krukow. This lot includes an official game-used National League (Feeney) baseball from that game that helped extend the streak to 22 games. On the sweet spot of the baseball, the following text is written in green ink: “Padres 22 Consecutive Games Hitting Streak Record.” Just below that, on the south panel, the following hand-written text appears: “Sept. 14, 1983 against GIANTS at San Diego Stadium off of Krukow AB-4 - R-0 - H-3 - RBI-2.”

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
