In 1989, San Diego Padres great Tony Gwynn was awarded his fourth of seven Hillerich & Bradsby Silver Slugger Awards for his outstanding hitting prowess in the National League The award is given annually by Hillerich & Bradsby, the maker of the Louisville Slugger, to the best offensive player at each position. It is often thought of as the offensive counterpart to the Gold Glove award. The impressive trophy includes a large wood support pedestal that measures 23” high and 11” wide. Upon the base rests a 34” silver-plated bat. The black-and-silver plaque on the award lists Gwynn along with the other eight N.L. position players selected that year. Gwynn collected 203 hits in 1989 as he locked down the N.L. batting title with a .336 average.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens.
