In 1987, San Diego Padres great Tony Gwynn was awarded his third of seven Hillerich & Bradsby Silver Slugger Awards for his outstanding hitting prowess in the National League. The Silver Slugger Award is named by the Sporting News and is considered the top offensive honor in all of Major League Baseball. With 8 N.L. batting titles under his belt, Tony Gwynn is tied with Honus Wagner for the most times earning the National League's hitting accolades (Gwynn and Wagner are second in major league titles only to American Leaguer Ty Cobb). The prestigious prize offered here, the Silver Slugger award, was bestowed upon the very player who most epitomizes and embodies Louisville Slugger's premier annual honor. The impressive trophy includes a large wood support pedestal that measures 23” high and 11” wide. Upon the base rests a 34” silver-plated bat. The black-and-silver plaque on the award lists Gwynn along with the other eight N.L. position players selected that year. Gwynn collected 218 hits in 1987 as he locked down the N.L. batting title with a .370 average.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

A portion of the proceeds generated by the Tony Gwynn Collection will be donated to the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation. The TAG Foundation is a non-profit, 5013(c) charity dedicated to creating and supporting programs that enhance opportunities for youth to become healthy, educated, and productive citizens. The TAG Foundation was organized in San Diego in 1995 by Tony’s wife, Alicia. For more information, visit www.tagwynn2.org.
