Thurman Munson was the gritty catcher of the New York Yankees from 1969 to 1979. A perennial All-Star, he remains the only Yankee to win both the Rookie of the Year (1970) and Most Valuable Player (‘76) awards. He led the team to back-to-back World Series championships in 1977 and ’78, but was killed expectantly on August 2, 1979, in a plane crash while practicing landing his Cessna Citation at Akron-Canton Airport. He was just 32 years old. This lot includes an autographed 5” by 6” black-and-white photo of Munson that he has signed in blue ballpoint pen. The signature rates 7-8/10 in our book. It comes complete in a framed and matted display that measures 15” wide by 17” high.
