Steve Sax was a late season call-up in 1981, playing 31 games that year and earning his first of two World Series rings with the Los Angeles Dodgers. On August 18, 1981, he started at second base for Los Angeles at a game at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. Sax singled off Cubs starter Mike Griffin for his first career hit. The Dodgers went on to blank the Cubs by a score of 5-0. That was the first of an impressive 1,949 career hits for Sax.

The ONL (Feeney) baseball shows solid game use is signed by Sax on the sweet spot in 9-10/10 blue ballpoint with a period notation (presumably from Sax or the Dodgers' clubby) describing his milestone. Ball comes with PSA/DNA authentication and LOA from Sax.

A portion of the auction proceeds from all items sold in the Steve Sax Collection will benefit the foundation named for Steve’s son, John, who was one of five U.S. Marines killed in a training flight accident in June 2022 in the California desert. The Capt. John J. Sax Foundation “serves to support those who choose to further their education, exploration and passion for flight."
