Steve Sax was known for having a great ability to get on base and hit for a high average throughout his career. He showed off his ability to hit the ball a long way when the stakes weren high on May 7, 1986, in a game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. With the bases loaded, he took Cubs reliever Jay Baller deep for his first career grand slam. This smash was the difference in an 8-4 Dodgers victory over Chicago.

The ONL (Feeney) baseball shows solid game use is signed by Sax on the west panel in 9-10/10 blue ballpoint with a period notation (presumably from Sax or the Dodgers' clubby) describing his milestone. Ball comes with PSA/DNA authentication and a letter from Sax.

A portion of the auction proceeds from all items sold in the Steve Sax Collection will benefit the foundation named for Steve’s son, John, who was one of five U.S. Marines killed in a training flight accident in June 2022 in the California desert. The Capt. John J. Sax Foundation “serves to support those who choose to further their education, exploration and passion for flight."
