Offered here is certainly one of the finest pieces ever created to advertise a baseball club. Printed in 1894, this spectacular poster advertises Pittsburgh’s home schedule at Exposition Park in Allegheny City. The center features a beautiful in-action illustration surrounded by portraits of several of the team’s stars, including Ad Gumbert, Frank Killen, Jake Stenzel (misspelled as Denzel), Lou Bierbauer, and manager Al Buckenberger. “Pittsburgh Base Ball Club 1894” in gaudy Victorian lettering completes this Deadball Era masterpiece. The poster measures 18” x 24” and was printed by “McKenzie Davis & Co. Lith., Pittsburgh, PA.” The poster has taken on light toning throughout from age and the high-quality lithographic colors remain unbelievably clear and bright. There is some light staining present, most noticeably on the top right, along with various creases and scuff as one expects to find on a 129 year-old poster. The piece has been professionally mounted and framed to compliment this Victorian-era masterpiece.
