Famed pioneer Negro League author and historian John Holway developed a deep friendship with many long deceased Negro Leaguers from even before they entered the Baseball Hall of Fame in the early 1970's. This lot contains six (6) very poignant and historical handwritten letters from Hall of Famer Cool Papa Bell to Holway with terrific baseball and "life in the Negro Leagues" content. Jam packed with historic tidbits much of it unpublished even to this day the letters contain information involving fellow Hall of Famers Judy Johnson Buck Leonard as well as Pete Drake barnstorming against Dizzy Dean and other vignettes detailing life in the Negro Leagues. Additionally this lot includes a form filled out by Bell for Holway detailing the years and teams he played for in the United States and Cuba. LOA from PSA/DNA.
