The 1933 Goudey advertising poster is one of the most important and sought-after baseball card-related advertising pieces. The poster (14 x 11.5 inches) advertises the classic 1933 Goudey "Big League" bubble-gum card set, the very first and most iconic bubble-gum card set ever issued. With an appearance very similar to that of an uncut sheet, it was designed to be displayed in candy-store windows to encourage youngsters to collect the set. The poster pictures twenty-four cards (all are cards between #49 and 96) including five Hall of Famers: Babe Ruth, Tris Speaker, Red Ruffing, Eppa Rixey, and Jesse Haines. A red banner across the bottom reads "New Pictures with Big League Chewing Gum Including Babe Ruth." The first 48 cards issued by Goudey sold very well. The 24 newly issued cards, featured in glorious full-color on the poster, made sure that nothing was lost in the translation. No youngster could possibly mistake these pictured cards - especially as they include the first appearance of Babe Ruth! - for the earlier issued cards. This poster was a call to action! The poster, which is printed on thin paper stock, has undergone professional restoration, mainly along all the top and bottom borders (the central portion of the piece was free of any significant defects). Although evidence of the restoration is apparent upon close inspection, the piece now has an Excellent overall appearance and presents much as it did when originally displayed over 80 years ago. It should be noted that the 1933 Goudey advertising poster is not just a classic due to its design and purpose. The colors are actually bolder and brighter than they appear on the issued cards, further contributing to its stunning visual appeal.
