With apologies to Muhammad Ali and Rocky Marciano, two more popular and well-known professional boxers in history than “Sugar Ray” Leonard and Thomas “Hitman” Hearns would be hard to find. And their Sept. 16, 1981, bout to unify the World Welterweight Championship was one of the sports’ great epic battles. In a scheduled 15-rounder, Leonard scored a 14th round TKO over Hearns in a fiercely contested fight in which Hearns was leading on all three judges’ scorecards. The fight was named "Fight of the Year" by The Ring magazine. This lot includes a dual-signed red Everlast boxing glove by both combatants. Hearns and Leonard have signed the glove in black marker with Hearns adding “Hit Man” between his first and last name. Both signatures are strong and rate 7-8/10 in our book.
