Ruth is pictured in his Yankees road uniform (c. 1920’s) standing in front of a crowd of African American admirers. The Babe had a large African American following, in part because of the widespread belief that he himself had a black ancestor. The image is very representative of Ruth's transcendent popularity across all societal boundaries, contrasting with the climate of segregation that prevailed in the United States during the 1920-30’s. Photo has some chips to the top left and right corners with some remnants of period photographer's cropping ink on the front. It is mounted onto thick paperboard and has an edge tear extending into the image. This classic image has been featured in numerous publications and filmographies. Very good to excellent condition. Framed.
Image measures: 9 1/4 in. by 7 1/4 in.

Estimate: $15,000+
