September 29, 1957, marked the last game ever played by the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team finished their final season on the road, the last game played at Ebbets Field being the week before. The team that proudly represented Brooklyn since 1883 ended their existence on the east coast with a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Shibe Park. Sadly, it also marked the final game ever played by Hall of Fame catcher Roy Campanella whose broken neck suffered in a car crash that off-season left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

The game was a good pitcher’s duel between Seth Morehead of the Phillies and the Dodgers’ Roger Craig. Both starters had each given up just 4 hits through the eighth when Craig was replaced by Sandy Koufax for the bottom of the eighth. Koufax got Richie Ashburn on a groundout, but then walked Don Landrum and Ed Bouchee. Harry Anderson advanced the runners on a groundout, but Koufax struck out Willie Jones to end the inning. The Dodgers went down in order in their half of the ninth and the Brooklyn Dodgers were history. It was fitting that the Brooklyn-native who pitched the last inning for the Brooklyn Dodgers would be the same pitcher who would bring glory and fame to the franchise when they relocated to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, Sandy's reliable backstop, Campy, never got to showcase his skills on the west coast in Dodger Blue.

This ticket stub is one of just four from this significant game that have been authenticated and slabbed by PSA. Only two have received a number grade. The likely reason for so few of these surviving is thefact that the Dodgers played their last game on the east coast on the road instead of in front of their Brooklyn faithful who would have been more inclined to keep their stubs as a nice memento. The stub shows a lot of wear on the bottom edge with some chipping and a crease in the lower right corner. The reverse has some paper loss, but overall this bright blue stub is a visually attractive piece of Brooklyn Dodgers history. Encapsulated as Authentic by PSA.
