This fine 14k gold pocket watch was manufactured by J.E. Caldwell, Phila. and presented to Rube Walberg for his contribution to the Philadelphia Athletics 1930 World Championship. Lettering encircled on the face in place of numerals reads, "WORLDS CHAMPS" and an elephant mascot appears with the year "1930" in blue lettering on its side. The back of the watch features fine custom engraving including a full portrait of Walberg in his A's uniform. The watch face has some surface wear, but is otherwise very clean, and comes encased in its original box. Includes a letter of provenance from the Walberg family. Period newspaper articles can be sourced reporting that there were only eleven of these custom watches made for those players who selected them as their prize in lieu of a ring or other type of award.
