The lovable boxer Rocky Balboa is known throughout the planet as the come-from-behind, never-give-up every man character created and portrayed by film legend Sylvester Stallone. When the movie script for the third installment of the “Rocky” series was finished, a scene in the film called for a large crowd to attend a dedication ceremony at the Philadelphia Museum of Art to honor the heavyweight boxing champ. After the speeches and formalities, a gargantuan bronze statue of “The Italian Stallion” standing close to 9-foot tall would be revealed to the adoring throng of fans. That beautifully sculpted work of art was done by noted Colorado-based sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg.

Just like the gargantuan-sized, nine-foot-tall bronze statue featured in the film “Rocky III,” this lot features a smaller, 35-inch version of the same original sculpture. The statue itself – with outstretched arms – measures 29 inches tall but rests on top of a six-inch tall green marble base that stretches six inches wide by six inches deep. On the front of the marble base is an engraved black plaque that reads: “ROCKY BALBOA By A. Thomas Schomberg.” The overall piece, which weighs 40 pounds, shows varying degrees of patina.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
