The Helms Athletic Foundation based in Los Angeles was founded in 1936 by Bill Schroeder and Paul Helms. It put together a panel of experts that annually recognized significant achievements in sports. The Helms Foundation also operated a Hall of Fame, which honored Red Auerbach with this elaborate 16" by 14" plaque honoring "Noteworthy Achievement in Major League Basketball." The award plaque impressed Auerbach enough to merit placement on the wall of his Boston office as can be seen in photos in our printed auction catalogue (pages 60-61). Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
