Red Auerbach's honorary Celtics number 2 signifies the fact that Auerbach is second only to Walter Brown as the most significant person in the history of the Boston Celtics organization. Auerbach's number "2" was retired by the Celtics on January 4, 1985. Offered here is a framed 24”x25” photo collage from Sports Illustrated who did a feature article on the event. The images utilized in the magazine article are shown including numerous shots of an Old Timer's game that was part of the festivities and Red greeting and embracing former players and fans. Images have faded slightly. This piece held great meaning to Red as evidenced by the place of honor it held on the wall of his Boston office (see catalogue pgs. 60-61). Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
