Arnold "Red" Auerbach built and sustained the Boston Celtics dynasty through meticulous scouting, innovative coaching, cunning deal making and fiery leadership. A member of the Celtics organization for 55 years, Auerbach led the team to nine championships as a coach, including eight in a row. After, moving full time into the front office, Auerbach went on to engineer seven more Celtic titles as the team's general manager. It is likely that many of Auerbach's most critical decisions, shrewdest deals, and most brilliant analysis were conducted at this very desk. This wood and metal desk remained in his Boston office until his passing. It can be seen in photographs of Red seated at it that date as far back as the 1960's. The desk shows evidence of prolonged use, yet remains fully functional. If this desk could talk, one can only imagine the tales of player meetings, contract signings, trade talk, and other dealings it could tell. It is the helm at which Auerbach captained professional basketball's most storied franchise for decades. This desk exudes the aura of Auerbach, which is to say it exudes an aura of greatness. Note to bidders: transport costs may be substantial. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
