The Boston Celtics was the first major sports franchise to go public. The Boston Celtics Limited Partnership offered investors a chance to own shares - what the partnership called "units" - in the company in 1986. No individual had more to do with raising the value of the Boston Celtics than Red Auerbach. Auerbach became a limited partner in the Celtics franchise on December 5, 1986 with the acquisition of 2,600,000 "units". In commemoration, Red received this Limited Partnership Certificate. The official, yet invalid certificate was issued for decorative purposes only. The visible area of the matted and framed piece measures 12" by 8". The importance this certificate held to Red is evident by the place of honor it held on display in his Boston office as can be seen in catalogue photos (pgs. 60-61). Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate
