From his childhood in Brookline to his college days at Harvard, The City of Boston helped shape young Jack Kennedy into the nation's 35th President. Throughout Jack's youth, he was encouraged by his father Joe to take part in school athletics. Wiry but thin, he played in half a dozen sports, though he never made varsity. However, like most young men who grew up in New England’s Hub, Kennedy was a great fan of professional sports. His rise to the height of political power coincided precisely with the Celtics rise to prominence in the National Basketball Association. In the summer of 1963, President Kennedy hosted the recently crowned World Champions at The White House to congratulate them on their fifth consecutive title. This incredible 16” by 20” image was taken on that day. It features a smiling Kennedy in the Oval Office surrounded by Celtic team members John Havlicek, Clyde Lovellette, K.C. Jones, Bob Cousy, coach Red Auerbach, Jim Loscutoff, Sam Jones, Frank Ramsey, Tom Heinsohn, Tom Sanders, and trainer Buddy LeRoux. The photo is affixed to cream colored mount with the photo itself having faded somewhat over time. It remains in its original frame just as it hung proudly in Red's Boston office. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
