This is a stunning program signed by the participants of the 1937 World Series. This was the fifth of seven times the two teams would clash in the World Series. The Gants were still smarting from the previous year’s loss to the Yankees and were looking for revenge. Unfortunately, the 1937 Yankees were even stronger than the ’36 team, playing error-free ball and disposed of the Giants in 5 games. During one of the games, a Giants player had the players from both teams sign his program.
The book contains 4 pages featuring the photo and biography of each of the Yankees and Giants, on which the players have signed. The Hall of Famers who’ve signed include Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Gomez, Bill Dickey, Red Ruffing and Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees and Mel Ott and Carl Hubbell of the Giants. Other Yankees who have signed include Pat Malone, Monte Pearson, Bump Hadley, Myril Hoag, Johnny Murphy, Kemp Wicker, Ivy Andrews, Frank Crosetti, Red Rolfe, John Saltzgaver, Don Heffner, Tom Henrich, George Selkirk, Frank Makosky, Art Jorgens, Joe Glenn and John Schulte. Other Giants who have signed are Cliff Melton Hal Schumacher, Harry Gumbert, Dick Bartell, Harry Danning, Joe Moore (slightly smudged), Wally Berger, Lou Chiozza, Sam Leslie, Al Smith, Dick Coffman, John McCarthy Gus Mancuso and Jimmie Ripple. Terry, Luque and Gehrig have been deemed clubhouse signatures by PSA/DNA.
The signatures are in black fountain pen and have been nicely preserved between the pages of the program. Overall the program shows light wear, with some edge flaking and dents. There is a small water stain on the top right front cover. The page with the Yankees team has come partially loose. There is some red ink staining found on the last interior page. World Series programs are highly sought after, but to find one signed by the majority of participants is quite extraordinary.
