On St. Patrick?s Day in 1897 Heavyweight Champion ?Gentleman? Jim Corbett and challenger Bob Fitzsimmons fought in the most anticipated heavyweight bout of the 19th century. In the 12th and final round of the grueling outdoor battle, Fitzsimmons landed a blow that knocked the reigning champ down and out in one of the most famous single punches in heavyweight history. This pair of 29? by 20? large format tinted and framed photographic prints featured the gallant warriors and last hung proudly in Mike Ditkas Restaurant in Chicago. To the best of our knowledge they originate circa the 1920?s and are contained in their original frames.
